We’re on a mission to stop all emissions.

Save Clean Energy is a nonprofit organization aimed at saving existing nuclear power plants in the U.S. from being shut down early and get closer to our goal of net-zero by 2035. Over the past two years, the central focus was saving California’s last nuclear power plant, Diablo Canyon.

Our efforts were heavily involved in planning a rally that was strategically scheduled at the same time Stanford and MIIT published their findings about the benefits of extending the life of Diablo Canyon. We started a grassroots movement in SLO county, talking with students at CalPoly and plant workers to encourage them to sign our petition and show their support.

We partnered with 79 scientists, politicians and climate specialists to write a collective letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom urging him to take action.

Diablo Canyon is California’s last nuclear power plant, and it makes enough carbon-free electricity for 3 million people. The plant was slated to be shut down by 2025, 20 years before its time, and the state didn’t have a viable solution to make up for the lost energy.

Grimes makes a PSA to save Diablo Canyon

In a PR stunt, we partnered with artist Grimes to create a video sharing her support for nuclear energy and encouraging people to join efforts in saving Diablo Canyon.

Save the plant. Save the planet.

As a direct result of our activism, we executed the largest pro-nuclear rally in the U.S. to date, and encouraged Newsom to seek federal funds to extend the license of the plant. Diablo Canyon is now operating for an additional five years, saving 7.2 million tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year.
